Abstract
Background: Based on health data in Java Province, it shows the highest level of Low Back Pain complaints with an average of 58.33% in East Java province. The most common causes of LBP are sitting for too long, wrong sitting posture, and excessive activity. Risk factors that cause LBP are age, BMI, gender, smoking, work period, workload, length of sitting, work position, repetitive activities, and physical environment. LBP complaints are often a problem faced by many confectionery tailors.
Objective: This study aims to examine the effect of sitting posture on Low Back Pain (LBP) complaints in confectioners in CV. TITIS Confectionery Mojokerto.
Methods: This study used a cross-sectional study design with a total sampling of 60 active tailors in CV. TITIS Confectionery Mojokerto. Data were collected through questionnaires and analyzed using univariate and bivariate statistical methods.
Results: The results showed that only 1.67% of tailors had a sitting posture without the risk of LBP, while the majority (66.67%) were in the moderate risk category. Most tailors experienced LBP complaints with mild intensity (36.67%) to moderate (30%). Bivariate analysis showed that there was a significant influence between sitting posture and LBP complaints, with a chi-square value of 16.836 and a p-value of 0.046. These findings suggest that poor sitting posture can lead to muscle tension and impaired blood circulation, which contributes to the onset of LBP.
Conclusion: This study emphasizes the importance of applying ergonomic principles in the work environment to reduce the risk of LBP. Education and training on correct sitting posture and adjustment of chair and desk design can help prevent LBP complaints. The implementation of ergonomic measures will improve the health and productivity of workers in the confectionery industry.
