Abstract

Background: Increasing motor skills in children can be influenced by education and playing. One aspect who needs to be developed in their gross motor development is the ability to jump. Jumping is included in active play activities that provide fun and satisfaction to children through an activity they like. Jumping can stimulate gross motor skills because it involves large muscle coordination, especially hand and foot coordination, balance, flexibility, muscle strength and agility. Ideal body weight and excess body weight affect speed, strength and explosive power to push off and produce maximum muscle explosive power. Purpose: This study aims to determine the relationship between body mass index and jumping ability in grade 2 students at SD Muhammadiyah Lamongan. Study design: Quantitative cross-sectional study carried out on 87 students, namely 47 male and 40 female students aged 7 – 9 years old. Results: Obtained a value of p = 0.030 (p<0.01) form the Chi-Square correlation test of the relationship between body mass index and jumping ability.
