Abstract
This study aims to classify each of Todorov's five stages implementation in the film and to obtain general understanding of the film structure in terms of Todorov theory. By applying the concepts of Tzvetan Todorov's theory of narrative to an analysis of the Tenggelamnya Kapal Van Der Wijck movie, new insights into the plot's structure are gained. This study uses a qualitative methodology, focusing on movie narrative analysis and Tzvetan Todorov's theory of narrative structure. The data collected in this research are grouped into primary and secondary data. Data collection is conducted by document analysis which the researcher as a human instrument, the data then analyzed using interactive analysis model. The results show the classification of several scenes in five different Todorov stages: Six (17%) New Equilibrium; Four (8) Disruption; Eight (25%) Recognition; Fourteen (33) Repair the Damage. The result of this study can successfully integrate educational principles that student might aspire to be and has the ability to improve our comprehension of narrative in movies.
