Abstract

Nonverbal communication is a communication that does not use words to convey a message to the communicant. Nonverbal communication, such as facial expressions, body movements, and eye contact, plays an important role in building strong relationships among band members, thereby improving the quality of music and performance experience for the audience. This study aims to answer the problem formulation of how Proxyma Band members improve interpersonal chemistry through nonverbal communication.
The theoretical foundation used in this research is Social Penetration Theory developed by Irwin Altman and Dalmas Taylor. The research method used in this study is descriptive qualitative research to identify nonverbal communication between Proxyma Band members.
This research shows that Proxyma Band members have managed to improve their interpersonal chemistry through nonverbal communication that evolved from formal interactions to relationships full of trust and openness. Initially, their communication was more formal with the use of polite smiles and head nods. Over time, they became more expressive by using intense eye contact, open hand gestures and light touch to show support and familiarity. Ultimately, they reach a high level of openness and trust, characterized by intimate touches, hugs, and familiar gestures such as high-fives, which indicate closeness and deep understanding of each other.
