Abstract
Fear Of Missing Out (FOMO) is a phenomenon often experienced by individuals who worry about missing out on exciting experiences or events that others are participating in. In the context of music festivals, FOMO can influence a person's decision to attend the event to avoid feeling left out. Generation Z, known for their intensive internet use, has a high enthusiasm for music. This study aims to determine the extent of the relationship between FOMO and the decision of Generation Z to attend the Pestapora 2023 music festival.
This research utilizes Social Cognitive Theory, which aims to understand how imitation and identification can explain how people learn by observing the behaviors of those around them. This study employs a quantitative method by distributing questionnaires to 138 respondents who fall into the Generation Z category. Data was collected through the researchers' social media as well as Pestapora's official account using Google Forms. Data analysis was conducted using a simple regression test to determine the influence of FOMO on the decision to attend Pestapora 2023.
After passing classical assumption tests and simple regression tests using SPSS 22, the results showed that the FOMO variable had a positive influence on Generation Z's decision to attend Pestapora 2023 by 0.820 or 82%. Factors such as anxiety, worry, and the need to follow trends and popular activities play a significant role. Social media also amplifies the effect of FOMO by providing information and promotions related to the festival. This research contributes to the understanding of Generation Z's behavior in the context of music events and how FOMO can be a driving factor in their decision-making.
