Abstract
Introduction: Handwashing is the easiest activity to prevent transmission of infection. However, handwashing behavior among school students remains low due to lack of understanding. Efforts can be made to increase understanding and awareness about handwashing by providing health education. One of the media that can be used is audiovisual media.
Objective: This study aims to determine the effect of health education with audio-visual media on hand washing behavior in elementary school children.
Methods: The design used in this study was quantitative pra-experimental One Group Pretest Postest experiment. The research subjects were 4th and 5th grade children totaling 70 students. Data collection tools using WHO hand washing observation sheet. Data analysis with univariate analysis to determine frequency distribution and bivariate analysis with Wilcoxon test.
Results: Before being given health education with audiovisual media, 33 respondents (48.5%) behaved very poorly, while after being given health education most respondents, as many as 46 respondents (67.6%) behaved very well. The Wilcoxon test results obtained a P value of 0.000. P value 0.000 ≤ 0.05 so that H0 is rejected, meaning that there is a significant influence between before and after health education with audiovisual media on student hand washing behavior.
Conclusion: Health education with audio-visual media improves hand washing behavior in 4th and 5th grade children at MI Miftahul Huda and SDN 2 KASRI.
