Abstract

This study investigates students' perceptions of TikTok as a tool for learning English through a mixed-methods approach comprising questionnaires and interviews with English Language Education students. Findings indicate that TikTok enhances language learning by improving vocabulary, pronunciation, and motivation. Interactive features, such as duet challenges, and algorithm-driven personalized content contribute to a flexible and engaging learning experience. The platform’s accessibility and ability to deliver authentic language input in a concise format were highlighted as significant advantages. However, students identified challenges, including distractions from non-educational content and reliance on stable internet connections. While TikTok supports autonomous learning, respondents noted that teacher guidance remains essential for mastering complex linguistic concepts. Despite its limitations, students perceive TikTok as an effective supplementary learning platform, providing opportunities for interactive and enjoyable education. This research contributes to understanding the role of social media in education, particularly its potential in enhancing English language skills. The study offers practical recommendations for educators to integrate TikTok into structured learning and encourages further exploration of its impact across diverse contexts, age groups, and language skills.
