Background : Using smartphones excessively and uncontrollably in teenagers will result in addiction for the users. Many factors are related to smartphone addiction, one of which is sociodemographic factors. Excessive use of smartphones is characterized by uncontrolled use, starting to neglect daily tasks. This also causes a state of hopelessness, tension, difficulty sleeping, pain in the thumb, decreased pinching strength, reduced hand function which ultimately has an impact on a person's social, physical and psychological function. The aim of this research is to determine the relationship between sociodemographic factors and smartphone addiction in adolescents.
Methods : This research study used a cross-sectional study, the population of this study was all 908 students at Malang Vocational School, and using random sampling techniques a sample of 104 students was obtained. The independent variables of this research are socio-demographic factors (age, gender, class, major, religion, parents' occupation, organization joined, how many children, who you live with, and duration of smartphone use in a day), while the dependent variable is addiction. smartphones. Both variables use questionnaire instruments, namely the sociodemographic factors questionnaire and the Smartphone Addiction Scale – Short Versions (SAS-SV). The data used is analysis using the contingency coefficient correlation test.
Results : The statistical test results show a p-value <0.05 with a correlation coefficient value (class) of 0.023, (major) of 0.017, and (joining an organization) of 0.010. These results indicate that there is a relationship between sociodemographic factors and smartphone addiction in adolescents. The results of this research show that students at Malang Vocational School have a high level of addiction (74.0%).

These three factors range from smartphone addiction because they are often in the search for identity phase and lack of supervision, two majors (Software & Multimedia Engineering) because the nature of work and learning in this field is very dependent on devices, and most of these students do not join organizations. so you spend more time on your smartphone.
