Abstract
One of the factors that can affect blood pressure is physical activity. Elderly people who are less physically active will increase blood pressure so that they can be at risk of being overweight. An elderly person with less physical activity tends to have a higher heart rate than usual, so that with each contraction the heart muscle has to work harder. The harder and more often the heart pumps blood, the greater the pressure placed on the arteries.
Research Objectives : Knowing the relationship between physical activity levels and blood pressure in the elderly at Pindad Hospital, Bandung.
Research Methods : This study was conducted with an observational analytical design and the approach was carried out using the Cross-Sectional method. The sampling technique was Purposive Sampling. The population was 55 and 35 samples met the inclusion criteria. The research instruments used were the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) to obtain data on physical activity levels and a Sphygmomanometer to identify blood pressure.
Results : Based on the relationship test using the chi square test, the results showed <0.05, so H1 is accepted and H0 is rejected. Which means there is a significant relationship between the level of physical activity and blood pressure and a contingency coefficient of 0.607, which means it has a strong and unidirectional relationship.
Conclusion : There is a relationship between the level of physical activity and blood pressure in the elderly at Pindad Hospital, Bandung.
