Writing is one of the important skills of English besides reading, listening, and speaking. As other lessons, writing subject need systematic and wellplanned in teaching, syllabus is a document which could bring the need of systematic and wellplanned in teaching learning process. Related with statement above, this study was conducted to know whether the teachers’ materials, objectives and activities of Writing I in line with the English Department syllabus. The research design used in this study was descriptive qualitative design. The researcher took two teachers who were teaching Writing I at English Department of University of Muhammadiyah Malang academic year of 20062007 as the research subject. The result of the study showed that the teachers’ materials, objectives and activities were in line with the English Department syllabus of Writing I. They modified their own syllabus and added some materials on their syllabus. At last, hopefully the result of this study could give benefit for the teachers, the English Department and the future researcher. It also suggested for the teachers be more active to apply the materials in interesting ways and create the activities more attractive. The teachers also should try to look for the other sources or materials to support the materials on the English department syllabus. In addition the English Department should need to mention the materials in detail manner not just the main topics and the activities should be more varieties and attractive and reevaluate the elements of its syllabus. Hence, it can be a complete document as guidance and controller for the teachers in teaching Writing I in the classroom. Cause of the limitation or this study, the future researcher are suggested to continue the more specific research on measuring the suitability of the materials, objectives and activities used compared with the students’ level and students’ need.
