Abstract

Based on the conditions that occur at the school, it can be said that some students have low initial reading skills. This factor is based on the learning media uses which is less interesting which causes students understanding to not be maximized, so there needs to be an effort to improve through learning media. Interesting learning media that can be used is zig-zag card media based on the Montessori method. The purpose of using this media is so that students can more easily understand the material taught by the teacher and become more active in participating in learning.
This study uses the ADDIE research and development model with 5 stages namely analysis, design, development, implementation and evaluation. The subjects of this study were grade 1 students at MI Darul Ulum Blandongan with a total of 19 students. The research instruments used observation guidelines, interview guidelines and questionnaire guidelines. While the data collection techniques used include observation, interviews, questionnaires and documentation. For data analysis techniques, qualitative analysis and quantitative analysis were carried out.
The development of zig-zag card learning media based on the Montessori method in beginning reading obtained material validation results of 80% and media validation results of 89%. From both validation results are categorized as very good and valid to be implemented. In addition, the student response questionnaire received a score of 95% and the teacher response questionnaire received a score of 95%. Both response questionnaire results are classified as very good. This shows that the development of zig-zag card media based on the Montessori method in beginning reading can increase student interest, increase understanding of beginning reading and students become active in the learning process.
