The Asian prevalence of bullying among school students reaches 70% and 706,688 Indonesians show symptoms of depression and anxiety or mental health problems. The closeness of parents to their children plays an important role in preventing or reducing the incidence of bullying and mental health in children.

A total of 9773 adolescents in grades 7-12 used a two-stage cluster sampling design. The variables examined in this research are age, gender, education level, parental understanding, parental monitoring, and parental controlling. The research instrument used a questionnaire from the 2015 GSHS. The analysis used used chi-square and the logistic multivariate regression test was used to analyze the significance level of each variable.
Results: The determinants associated with bullying are age, gender, education level, parental understanding (fighting), parental monitoring, and parental controlling (fighting). While the determinants associated with mental health are age, gender, education level, parental understanding, parental monitoring, and parental controlling (feeling lonely).
Conclusion: There is an influence between parent-child closeness and the incidence of bullying and mental health of adolescents in Indonesia, including age, gender, education level, parental understanding, parental monitoring, and parental controlling.
