Abstract
Reading ability in first grade is an important skill for students. However, at SDN Tlogomas 2 Malang, there are still five students who have difficulty reading. Therefore, it is necessary to have learning activities that use interesting media to facilitate students in learning to read, one of which is using an alphabet board. This study aims to: (1) describe the learning steps to improve students' reading ability using the alphabet board, and (2) describe the results of sentence and word reading ability.
The research method used is a qualitative approach with classroom action research (CAR) involving five first-grade students in two learning cycles. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and tests.
The learning steps using the alphabet board are as follows: (1) Students are asked to mention the alphabet letters. (2) Students are asked to mention words using picture cards. (3) Students are asked to read the words on the word cards. (4) Students are asked to read the sentences on the sentence cards. The results of learning to read using the alphabet board show that 4 students or 80% achieved a "GOOD" score in reading ability, and 1 student or 20% achieved a "FAIR" score in alphabet reading ability.
