Abstract

This research examines the forms of communication carried out by parents towards
children with disabilities at the Mutiara Hati Disability Foundation in Pakis District, Malang
Regency. The reason the researcher decided to research this was because the researcher was
interested in the communication process in families with children with disabilities, especially in
increasing their learning motivation, both in education and learning for children's selfdevelopment. This research uses a qualitative approach to answer the phenomena that have been
observed. This type of research uses a descriptive type which is observed after collecting data in
the form of interviews and documentation, then analyzing the data to produce a conclusion.
The results of this research conclude that the communication pattern used by parents
towards children with disabilities is by using verbal and non-verbal communication. Verbal
communication is carried out by parents directly by providing private training on children's
interests and talents, using motivating language and accompanying children in participating in
skills supporting activities so that good verbal communication patterns are established. Apart from
that, parents use non-verbal communication patterns by using touch, such as stroking and hugging,
so that they can calm children who have unstable emotions
