Abstract

This research was motivated by the discovery of problems related to the reading ability of grade 1A students of SDN Tlogomas 2 Malang. It is intended that there are still some students who have difficulty in reading. The purpose of this study is to analyze the reading ability of grade 1A students of SDN Tlogomas 2 Malang, factors inhibiting the reading ability of grade 1A students of SDN Tlogomas 2 Malang, and supporting factors of reading ability of grade 1A students of SDN Tlogomas 2 Malang.
This research uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive type of research. The data source uses two sources, namely the primary data source in the form of grade 1A students of SDN Tlogomas 2 Malang as many as 28 students, while the secondary data is a grade 1A teacher at SDN Tlogomas 2 Malang. The study will be conducted in March 2024. The data collection techniques used are observation, interviews, and tests. Data analysis uses data reduction, data presentation, and inference.
The ability to read in students in grade 1A SDN Tlogomas 2 Malang there are 5 categories of reading ability, namely reading letters, reading syllables, reading words, reading sentences, and reading stories. Factors inhibiting students' reading ability are lack of student concentration, interest in reading, and the role of libraries. Factors supporting students' reading ability are the willingness of students to learn to read, the existence of learning media and the role of teachers.
