Abstract
Saudi Arabia is a petroleum-producing country in the Middle East and a highly petroleum-dependent country. Petroleum is the main source of revenue, so the government of Saudi Arabia established the Public Investment Fund in 1971 to support the development of the Saudi economy and encourage domestic investment. In 2016, the Government of Saudi Arabia launched Saudi Vision 2030, and further positioned the PIF to expand its portfolio abroad, such as making overseas investments, one of which is in a famous soccer club such as Newcastle United in 2021. This research aims to see how the interests behind the acquisition of Newcastle United by the Public Investment Fund. This research uses Donald E. Nuechterlein's concept of interests which has four bases consisting of: economic interests, world order interests, ideological interests, and defense interests, and uses the concept of consortium. This research uses a qualitative method with a descriptive research type. This research shows that the acquisition through PIF, a consortium formed by the state to collect funds to be channeled, one of which is to make investments at home and abroad, of the Newcastle United soccer club is used for asset development and investment abroad to support diversification and through acquisitions, wants to show the country's good reputation and presence in the sports field with the ownership of a well-known and international soccer club.
