Abstract
Friska Alvianti. 202010040311035. Communication Science Study Program. Faculty of Social Science and Political Science. Muhammadiyah University of Malang. Intensity of Instagram Social Media Behavior among Fanatical K-Pop Idol Fans (Study of 2020 Communication Science Study Program Students, Muhammadiyah University of Malang).
K-Pop idol fans often show very high support and have a royal spirit for their idols, this is called fan fanaticism. In the current digital era, access to communication and information can make it easier for users to receive various information quickly. Social media is the basis for communication between fans and their idols. Instagram is one of the most popular social media for K-Pop Idol fans which is currently a space to connect with their idols. This research aims to find out how much intensity of Instagram social media behavior there is among fanatical fans of K-Pop idols, Communication Science students at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang class of 2020.
Researchers use the Use and Gratification theory by Herbert Blumer and Elihu Kartz (1974), this research focuses on the concept of media use in the Use and Gratifications Theory, especially Instagram by K-Pop Idol fans without involving aspects of user satisfaction. In this context, researchers explore the intensity of use, the phenomenon of fanaticism, and K-Pop content on Instagram social media. This research uses a descriptive quantitative approach with survey methods. This research uses a single variable that is not related to other variables, namely the intensity of social media behavior. The sampling technique used was hazard sampling with a total of 85 respondents. The data collection method used is primary data in the form of questionnaires and documentation.
The results of this research show that students in the Communication Science study program at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang have various levels of intensity of behavior using Instagram social media. Of the 85 students, it was found that the majority of 52 students were fanatical K-Pop idol fans who had a moderate level of frequency in sharing content related to K-Pop idol activities on Instagram, 30 students showed a moderate level of tendency in communication interactivity, 28 students each had the same level in medium and low categories regarding criticality towards fake news on Instagram social media, and 31 students showed a tendency to have high awareness of copyright and intellectual property rights in using Instagram social media.
