Abstract
Background : Students in their studies have many responsibilities and demands that can affected their mental health. One of them is the problem of self esteem. Self esteem is one of the factors that influences the academic stress experienced by students. Students at level II can experience higher academic stress.
Method : The design of this researched is correlational research used a person correlation approach which examined the relationship between self esteem and academic stress in level II students which was carried out on 28 September - 09 November 2023. The sample in this studied was 240 respondents by completed a questionnaire which was carried out for level II students in the nursing science study program.
Result : This researched shows that there is a significant relationship between self-esteem and academic stress in level II students of the Nursing Science Study Program, University of Muhammadiyah Malang with a significance value of p = 0.000 (p < α = 0.05). The strength of the relationship between the variables in this studied shows moderate strength with a correlation coefficient value of (-0.425).
Conlusion : Students who have a high level of self-esteem can recognize and develop their potential so that by believed in their potential, included the academic potential of students who have high self esteem, the level of academic stress they feel will decrease further. Academic stress experienced by students can be influenced by other factors not examined in this research.
