Abstract
Introduction: Second- and fourth-year students frequently report feelings of loneliness that range from mild to severe. The high prevalence of loneliness is caused by a variety of factors, one of which is a lack of Psychological Well-Being. As a result, the objective of this study was to investigate the relationship between psychological well-being and loneliness among nursing students at Muhammadiyah University of Malang. Research Method : The research design used was a cross-sectional study. Population of this study consisted of 369 level II and level IV students. The sample consisted of 194 students selected by chance. The independent variable in this study was psychological well-being as measured by Ryff’s Psychological Well-Being Scale instrument, and the dependent variable was the level of loneliness as measured by Russel’s UCLA Loneliness Scale version 3, which was then tested for Pearson correlation. Results : Students’ psychological well-being was primarily low, while loneliness was primarily moderate. The correlation results showed P=0.000 with a value of r = -0.721, indicated that psychological well-being was significantly related to loneliness, with a strong relationship strength and a negative trend. According to these findings, four aspects of psychological well-being were strongly correlated: positive relationships, environmental control, personal growth, and self-acceptance. Conclusion: The strong correlation indicated that psychological well-being had a significant impact on loneliness in college students, but other factors were also related and understudied. The negative degree of closeness indicated that the higher the Psychological Well-Being, the lower the loneliness, and vice versa.
