Abstract
Background: Gastritis is a health problem that often occurs in Indonesia and even in the world. Ulcers in students also often occur due to various factors. In students, poor sleep quality is often related to irregular sleep patterns or lack of sleep. This condition can affect the hormonal balance in the body and trigger increased production of stomach acid, which in the end can damage the stomach lining and cause inflammation. This research aims to determine the relationship between sleep quality and the incidence of stomach ulcers in nursing students who are completing their final
assignments.
Method: This research uses a quantitative correlation method with a cross sectional study approach, conducted in November 2023 at the Muhammadiyah University of Malang. Data was collected using a total sampling technique and obtained 107 respondents. Data was collected using the PSQI questionnaire and the Gastritis Symptoms questionnaire, the statistical test used was Spearman correlation analysis.
Results: The results of data analysis in this study obtained a p-value of 0.000 and a correlation value (r) of 0.451, which means that there is a significant relationship between sleep quality and the incidence of ulcers in nursing students who are completing their final assignments with the strength of the relationship being quite strong.
Conclusion: Students with good sleep quality have a small chance of developing ulcer symptoms, whereas those with poor sleep quality are more likely to develop ulcer symptoms.
