Abstract
Background: Self-efficacy, or the belief in one's ability to perform a behavior, can help individuals behave and
process in self-care management in patients with diabetes mellitus. This study aimed to determine the relationship
between self-efficacy and self-care in patients with diabetes mellitus at Puskesmas Batu.
Methods: The research design was an analytical observational with a cross-sectional approach. It was conducted
at the internal medicine clinic of Puskesmas Batu in October-November 2023, with a sample of 106. The samples
were taken using accidental sampling. The instruments used were the Diabetes Self-Efficacy Questionnaire and
Diabetes Self-Management Questionnaire (DSMQ). The chi-square test was used to determine the relationship
between self-efficacy and self-care.
Results: The results of this study showed that the majority of self-efficacy in patients with diabetes mellitus at
Puskesmas Batu were in the confident category with 73 (68.9%), while self-care management was mostly good, at
101 (95.3%). The results of the chi-square test, which showed that there was a relationship between self-efficacy and
self-care management in patients with diabetes mellitus at Puskesmas Batu, were supported by a significant value of
0.032 (p<0.05).
Conclusion: Self-efficacy has a relationship with the processing behavior of self-care management. The higher the
level of self-efficacy of patients, the better the self-care management of patients with diabetes mellitus. The
recommendation when patients are going to increase self-care can pay attention to the self-efficacy of patients
