Abstract
Background: Hypertension is called the silent killer because this disease generally does not cause disturbing symptoms so sufferers tend to let this condition continue without being controlled. Blood pressure that is left in this condition can cause various complications from other diseases and even death. Good management is needed to maintain a healthy lifestyle, help reduce symptoms and the risk of complications of hypertension, but the lack of support received by patients means that self-management does not work optimally. This study aims to determine the relationship between social support and self-management in hypertensive patients.
Method: This research uses a quantitative correlation method with a cross sectional study approach, carried out at the Polowijen Health Center, Malang City, which was carried out from July to November 2023. Data was collected using a purposive sampling technique and a sample of 110 respondents was obtained. Data were collected using the Chronic Illness Resources Survey (CIRS) and Hypertension Self-care Activity Level Effect (H-SCALE) questionnaires. The statistical test used is the Spearman correlation test.
Results: The results of the research analysis showed a p-value of 0.000 and a correlation value (r) of 0.346, which means there is a relationship between social support and self-management of hypertensive patients with a weak relationship strength. Social Support is related to self-management because with Social Support there will be other people who pay attention, support and supervise patients in self-management, this will later influence hypertensive patients in several criteria such as weight management, physical activity, and drinking compliance. drug.
Conclusion: Social support has a relationship with increasing self-management in hypertensive patients. The better the social support the patient receives, the better the self-management carried out by hypertension patients.
