Abstract
Prof. Dr. Nezvat Tarhan in the book The Psychology of Women mentions that social pressure and the culture of male dominance are part of the dimensions of the debate surrounding women. Like the popular cultural references to independent women on social media, as well as feminist ideologies related to a woman's freedom to choose her career path or personal life. The development of the internet and social media often leads to misunderstandings or differences in interpreting signs of representation. The research titled "Representation of Independent Women in Generation Z on Instagram (Content Analysis of Posts from the Instagram Account @ananzaprili)" uses Instagram posts from @ananzaprili that were posted in June with a minimum of 10,000 likes from Instagram users as the data source. Social media, especially Instagram, can be one of the tools for communication and information exchange between influencers and their followers. One of them is how someone portrays themselves to the public and can be considered to represent an independent woman.
This research aims to understand how Generation Z represents independent women on the Instagram social media account @ananzaprili using a descriptive qualitative approach. Using a descriptive research type with content analysis methods, as well as employing Stuart Hall's Representation Theory. The results of this study conclude that the indicators characterizing independent women of Generation Z on the Instagram account @ananzaprili are represented through content that includes career journeys, education, social relationships, mental health, and personal development.
