Abstract
Background: Asthenophia, or eye strain, is a collection of symptoms related to visual, ocular, and musculoskeletal issues. This condition is often caused by prolonged use of digital devices. Common symptoms include tired, dry, watery, irritated eyes, blurred or double vision, nausea, dizziness, and headaches. If left unaddressed, asthenophia can lead to negative impacts such as reduced productivity and long-term vision problems..
Objective: The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of gadget usage behavior on Asthenophia in students of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Muhammadiyah Malang, Class of 2022.
Methods: This study is an observational study with a cross-sectional approach, data collection using the VFI (visual fatigue index) questionnaire which has a sample of 61 and is analyzed descriptively and analytically using IBM SPSS version 23.
Results and Discussion: . The study results showed a significant relationship between gadget usage duration and the incidence of asthenophia with a p-value of 0.018, light intensity with a p-value of 0.038, and viewing distance with a p-value of 0.009. However, no significant relationship was found between eye rest and the incidence of asthenophia, with a p-value of 0.250.
