Abstract
The purpose of this study is to analyze how the construction of the meaning of fathering signs in the Spy x Family anime using Charles Sanders Peirce's semiotic theory. This anime was chosen because it depicts a complex father figure in a unique fictional family. Through the semiotic analysis method, this study identifies and interprets the levels of signs (icons, indexes, symbols) related to fatherhood in the anime, focusing on how these signs can be understood in terms of representamen, object, and interpretant. The results show that the portrayal of fatherhood in Spy x Family not only reflects the traditional role of fathers as protectors and providers, but also depicts the emotional aspects and relationships between fathers and children. In this case, the main character, Loid Forger, acts as a father who tries to balance his professional duties as a secret agent with the responsibility of caring for his family. In this context, Charles S. Peirce's triadic semiotic model (representamen, object, interpretant) is used to analyze how the dimensions of fathering namely Paternal Engagement, Paternal Accessibility, and Paternal Responsibility are represented and understood. This research contributes to the understanding of the portrayal of fatherhood in the Spy x Family anime, especially in depicting the complexity of the father's role not only as a protector and provider, but also as someone who is emotionally close to his child. The contribution of this research is to expand the literature on the representation of gender and family in popular media.
