Abstract
This study aims to analyze the communication behavior of K-pop fans, specifically NCTzen, in interacting through the social media platform Weverse. The research focuses on examining the communication behavior of NCTzen while engaging on Weverse. The purpose of this study is to describe how NCTzen communicate when interacting on Weverse.
This research adopts a qualitative method with a descriptive study approach. It utilizes the theory of symbolic interactionism, which explains that individuals do not act solely based on internal drives but also interact with symbols that carry specific meanings within a social context. Data collection was conducted through interviews with NCTzen who are actively using Weverse.
The findings of the study reveal several key insights; Formation of Collective Identity, NCTzen construct collective meaning and identity through K-pop fandom symbols such as terms like bias, stan, comeback, and the green heart symbol, which represents NCTzen's identity, as well as through Weverse features like live streaming and comments. Cultural Competence, fans demonstrate their ability to adapt to K-pop cultural symbols and interact with other fans from diverse cultural backgrounds. Communication Skills, interactions between fans and idols, such as through likes, comments, or replies from idols, create symbolic meanings that strengthen emotional and social bonds within the community. Interaction Skills symbolic interactions on Weverse—whether through live streaming, comments, or posts—enable fans to connect both emotionally and socially
