Abstract
Background: Verbal communication disorders are the most common symptoms
experienced by CVA patients. CVA patients who experience verbal communication
disorders will affect their quality of life. This study aims to analyze the intervention of
aiueo therapy on verbal communication disorders in Mr. s with cerebrovascular accident
(CVA).
Research Method: This research is a case study research. The research subject is Mr. S
is 71 years old with a diagnosis of CVA. This research was conducted in the inpatient
ward of Saiful Anwar Hospital, East Java on April 15 - April 17 2024. Data collection
methods were carried out using interviews, observation, physical examination and
documentation. Mr. Verbal Communication S is measured subjectively based on the
Indonesian Nursing Outcome Standards (SLKI).
Results: After being given AIUEO therapy intervention, on the first day, the ability to
speak showed a moderate decrease (2), moderate eye contact (3), aphasia decreased (1),
on the second day the same intervention was given and the results were still the same as
the first day, and on the third day showed an increase, the ability to speak showed a slight
increase in patients who were initially unable to speak, on the third day the patient said
the word "A" (3 moderate), Eye contact on the third day increased (5), and aphasia
showed a slight increase, patients who were initially unable to communicate, on the third
day the patient communicated by groaning "mmm" (2 moderate). In Mr. S, the results
showed that the problem was partially resolved.
Conclusion: AIUEO therapy intervention is effective in improving verbal
communication in CVA patients
Suggestion: It is expected that the patient's family will help the patient in practicing
AIUEO therapy to achieve the desired goal, namely increasing speaking ability and
improving the patient's quality of life.
