Abstract

Communication plays an important role in online learning, especially in building interactions between parents and children. Parents' communication style influences the dynamics of the relationship, both verbally and non-verbally. Distinctiveness in communication styles exposes differences between individuals, which include models, mannerisms, expressions and responses in communication. Three common types of communication styles used by parents to their children are assertive, non-assertive and aggressive. The purpose of this study is to understand social interaction, especially in the context of online education, through observation and in-depth interview techniques. This research uses a qualitative approach. The descriptive method was used to describe the phenomenon with a focus on the depth of the data. Qualitative research was chosen because initial observations showed the suitability of this method to the problem at hand. The results of this study explore the various strategies used by three mothers in encouraging their children to learn in the online era, focusing on communication styles, supporting factors, and barriers faced. Supporting factors include parents' awareness of their role, availability of time for interaction, and understanding of their role as a parent.
