Abstract
TEFL, or Teaching English as a Foreign Language, addresses global educational needs by teaching English grammar to students with no prior knowledge. Grammar is foundational for language learning, and many students struggle with it. Technological advancements, like ChatGPT, a language model by OpenAI, have significantly influenced education, aids language acquisition through interactions, context creation, paraphrasing, and test creation, supplementing traditional teaching methods effectively.
This study examines investigates the use of ChatGPT as a media in learning TEFL grammar. The objective is to understand how ChatGPT can be utilized for media instruction in university-level TEFL grammar courses.
Using Qualitative methods, involving data collection from interviews and observations. Participants were students from the University of Muhammadiyah Malang, selected from the Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) course in the VI semester. Six students who had used ChatGPT in their TEFL classes were chosen as subjects for this research.
The findings suggest that ChatGPT significantly enhances grammar learning by providing detailed explanations, instant feedback, and contextual examples. It improves students' confidence and learning strategies by offering immediate help and boosting their digital literacy. Despite some challenges related to response accuracy and technical issues, ChatGPT proves to be a valuable tool for grammar instruction, suggesting its potential to improve the quality and efficacy of TEFL grammar learning.
