Abstract

Competition for investment in the automotive industry in Indonesia has been around for a long time, especially in the renewable energy era. Various countries apply different strategies in competition for investment in the automotive industry in the renewable energy era. Japan has a different strategy compared to other countries, Japan does not focus on electric vehicles but still maintains petrol engines assisted by electric motors (hybrid). Japan's strategy in competing for automotive investment in the renewable energy era is by utilizing the Indonesia-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement (IJEPA) which is developing the LCGC (Low Cost Green Car) as a bridge to enter vehicles in the renewable energy era. In recent decades, the automotive industry in Indonesia has experienced significant growth, making it an attractive market for foreign investment, including from Japan. On the other hand, the global transition towards renewable energy is forcing the automotive industry to adapt to more environmentally friendly technologies. Japan has implemented various strategies to strengthen its position in the Indonesian automotive market, including through technology transfer, investment in research and development, and increased cooperation with local companies. Apart from that, the IJEPA policy has made it easier for Japanese companies to access the Indonesian market, both in terms of tariffs and regulations.
