Abstract

Retinoic acid is usually included in the composition of whitening creams because it can provide a whitening effect. The whitening effect is obtained indirectly through inhibiting melanin pigment like several other whitening compounds, but is thought to be due to increased proliferation of creatine cells and accelerated turnover of the epidermis (outermost layer of skin), thus providing a skin brightening effect). (Aditya Pratama, 2017).
This research aims to find out whether retinoic acid is contained in night creams circulating in online shops. The research method used was chosen descriptively. This research was carried out at the Integrated Chemistry Laboratory at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang over a period of 4 months.
In the results of this research, of the 18 night cream samples in the shop, none of the night cream samples contained retinoic acid. In accordance with BPOM recommendations, it is better to use night cream that is registered and has a clear composition.
