Abstract
Cosmetics are products that are used not only for aesthetics but also to care for healthy skin. One type of cosmetic that is widely used is night cream, which contains various chemicals, including retinoic acid. Even though retinoic acid is known to be effective for treating skin, its use in cosmetic products has been prohibited by BPOM RI because it can cause serious side effects such as dry skin, burning and teratogenicity. This study aims to analyze the retinoic acid content in night creams circulating at Malang Beauty Clinics. This study used the UV-Vis spectrophotometry method to find out whether this method was accurate in analyzing retinoic acid in 15 night cream samples taken from the clinic. Total sampling technique was used for sampling. Method validation is carried out through linearity, precision and accuracy tests to ensure the reliability of test results. The results of the research obtained a wavelength of 200-300 nm, the results of the analysis on the 15 samples did not contain retinoic acid, and it can be concluded that the UV-Vis spectrophotometry method is less accurate and further qualitative and quantitative analysis must be carried out, in carrying out Retinoic Acid Analysis. , so it requires a high level of accuracy and good separation of other compounds in the sample, chromatographic methods such as HPLC or TLC.
