Abstract

This research, titled "Deixis Analysis Of The Lyrics Of The Song In All Of Me By John Legend" investigates how deixis, words relying on context for meaning (like pronouns and spatial references) and contributes to listener engagement with songs. By analyzing the use of personal pronouns, spitical references, and temporal markers within the song's 116 words, the study aims to identify the types of deixis present and their role in conveying meaning and emotions. Qualitative methods were used in this research with 10 students who had taken the Linguistic Perspectives in ELT course in semester 5. To collect data, researchers used triangulation interviews. Students report on the experience of listening to the song All of Me by John Legend, identifying the types of deixis that exist and their role in conveying meaning and emotion. This study examines the influence of the song "All of Me" by John Legend on listeners. The majority of respondents felt happy after listening to this song, but there were also those who felt sad or a mixture of happy and sad. The use of the words "I" and "you" in the lyrics also gave the same impression to respondents. Quantitative analysis found many uses of personal pronouns and spatial and temporal references in the song's lyrics. This study provides insight for educators to optimize the benefits of panel discussions while overcoming challenges to encourage the development of effective oral communication.
