Abstract

Uneven bandwidth distribution and slow internet connections often cause excessive buffering and delay in accessing the internet on the network. The factors causing slow internet access include the large number of devices connected to the internet that are not balanced with adequate bandwidth availability and the lack of traffic separation between realtime and non-realtime networks. This issue can be addressed through bandwidth management methods. Bandwidth management on MikroTik uses several methods such as PCQ (Per Connection Queue), Queue Tree, and FQ_Codel. These methods are chosen because PCQ can automatically distribute bandwidth and is used for non-realtime traffic, FQ_Codel can overcome buffering and reduce delay on the internet network, and Queue Tree can be designed to perform more complex traffic queueing tasks and to separate network traffic between realtime and non-realtime traffic. The purpose of this research is to address the issues of slow internet connections and uneven bandwidth distribution at Kost Putra Jetis through the optimization of Quality of Service (QoS) using the PCQ and FQ_Codel methods based on MikroTik. The research methodology involves collecting secondary data through literature studies and primary data through observations and network development like NDLC. The results of the tests conducted three times using Wireshark show that the use of the PCQ and FQ_Codel methods successfully improves the quality of internet service, especially in terms of video streaming, YouTube, video conferencing, and gaming. Thus, the QoS of internet access can be categorized as very good. This research contributes to improving the performance of the internet network in the Kost Putra Jetis environment.
