Abstract

This research highlights educational discrimination against women in Afghanistan under the Taliban
regime of 2021-2024. Women's education had progressed after the entry of the United States and support
from international organizations such as UN Women and UNESCO. However, the return of the Taliban
in 2021 with policies that prohibited women from accessing education contradicted their original
promise, causing unrest and adverse impacts for women in Afghanistan. UN Women played an important
role in addressing this education discrimination by protecting women's rights through advocacy with
the Taliban government, cooperation with the international community, and support for the women's
movement in Afghanistan. Although the Taliban rejects external interference that is considered
incompatible with Islamic sharia, UN Women continues to support Afghan women by maximizing its
role as an International Organization. This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach and content
analysis, reviewing literature from books, journals, and other reliable sources. The purpose of this
research is to understand the role of UN Women in overcoming educational discrimination against
women in Afghanistan using the concept of International Organization according to Clive Archer and
Gender Equality.
