Abstract

As one of the pillars of contemporary democracy, the press plays a crucial role in delivering news, particularly as a watchdog within the state system. In today's context, the reporting process is vulnerable to bias due to factors such as media ownership and ideology. This bias in media is often manifested through framing. This study aims to analyze the news construction of Anies Baswedan as a presidential candidate on the online platforms Viva.co and Sindo News, specifically focusing on his attainment of the 20% presidential threshold, using Robert N. Entman's Framing Approach in data analysis.
The research reveals that there are efforts to emphasize different issues influenced by media ownership. Framing is conducted in at least three ways: issue selection, choice of news sources, and highlighting specific figures to support the framing of news construction. Viva.co and Sindo News utilize framing through issue selection and problem emphasis, employing four components (Define Problem, Diagnose Causes, Make Moral Judgment, Treatment Recommendation) to navigate the process of achieving the 20% presidential threshold with distinct framing strategies.
In essence, this study underscores how media outlets can shape public perception through selective framing, highlighting the importance of media literacy in understanding the nuances of news presentation in contemporary democratic societies.
