With the advancement of technology, online media, referred to as new media, has emerged. Online media can be easily accessed at any time and without boundaries. News reporting in online media, which is easily accessible by anyone, often engages in media framing of certain issues or events. The researcher aims to address the research questions regarding the media framing conducted by Detik.com and JawaPos.com in their coverage of the Kanjuruhan Stadium tragedy.
The main theory used is Robert N. Entman's framing theory, supported by Media Perspective Theory and Mass Media Hierarchy Theory, and it connects how media plays a role in framing news and the factors influencing the content of the news.
The research methodology employs a constructivist paradigm with a qualitative interpretative approach, based on Robert N. Entman's framing theory, which focuses on four aspects: (define problems), (diagnose causes), (make moral judgments), and (treatment recommendations) by analyzing six news articles, three from Detik.com and three from JawaPos.com.
The framing results from Detik.com and JawaPos.com show different outcomes. Detik.com focuses more on police responses, which tend to enhance the police's positive image. In contrast, JawaPos.com emphasizes the portrayal of the police as primarily responsible, using terms such as 'brutal' and depicting the police as taking repressive actions against supporters.
