Abstract

Mathematical critical thinking skills can be influenced by students' learning patterns and habits, apperception and motivation at the beginning of learning by the teacher, the use of learning approaches or models, the use of learning media, and teacher activities to develop students' thinking creativity. Therefore, the way of learning or learning style can determine the thinking ability of individuals. This study aims to determine the critical thinking ability of students in solving fraction
story problems according to the VARK learning style in class IV SDN Pakel. This research uses a qualitative research approach with a case study method. This research was conducted at SDN Pakel, Trenggalek Regency and focused on the critical thinking skills of students in solving story problems according to the VARK learning style. This research uses questionnaires, written tests, observation, and documentation in data collection. Data analysis in thisstudy
is through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. Checking the validity of the data using two ways, namely triangulation of sources and triangulation of techniques. The results of the study are the completion of mathematics story problems in class IV SDN Pakel in accordance with the stages of solving according to Polya completely, which include understanding the problem, designing a plan, carrying out a plan, and looking back. The results of the analysis of the 15 students obtained 5 students who answered in accordance with, then the 5 students became research subjects. Of the 5 subjects, critical thinking problem solving was obtained which resulted in 5 different completion patterns, namely I-I-I-A-I-A-E-E-E-E-E-In by
subject AOW, I-I-I-A-E-E-E-E-E-In by subject RB, I-I-I-A-A-E-E-E-E-In by subject LFF, I-I-I-A-E-E-A-E-E-E-In by subject OAS, and I-I-I-A-E-E-E-E-E-E-In by subject PP. The five subjects who have analyzed their solution patterns have quite good critical thinking skills in the context of solving mathematical problems.
