Abstract
Grebeg Pancasila is a tradition in Blitar City to celebrate the birth of Pancasila from May 31st to June 1st. There are five parts to this tradition: Bedhol Pusaka, Tirakatan Pancasila, Upacara Budaya, Gunungan Lima, and Kenduri Pancasila. This research employs a qualitative-descriptive method with a naturalistic research base. The aim of this research is to explain how the Grebeg Pancasila tradition plays a pivotal role as Blitar’s cultural symbol. Data for this research was collected through interviews and documentation, analyzed using Miles and Huberman’s data analysis techniques. To support the main argument, this research utilizes Herbert Blumer's symbolic interaction theory. The results show that there is significant meaning in each part of Grebeg Pancasila and a relevance between symbolic interaction, including how individuals react to others based on their principles, the meaning of interactions created between people, and how those meanings are transformed through interpretative processes. In conclusion, the existence of Grebeg Pancasila serves to introduce and celebrate the birth of Pancasila to people through Javanese culture and arts.
