PEMAKNAAN MAHASISWA AKTIVIS TENTANG MUSIK PUNK SEBAGAI MEDIA GERAKAN SOSIAL BARU (Analisis Resepsi Pada Fungsionaris Kine Klub UMM Terhadap Lagu “Bertaruh Pada Api” Karya Dongker)

Music in Indonesia has experienced rapid development, influenced by advancements in mass media and the internet that introduce various music genres and increase the number of musicians using music as a platform for social activism and as a medium for new social movements. The song "Bertaruh Pada Api" conveys a message through punk music, containing lyrics about the social reality experienced by Dongker's band members, urging unity to create a better world. The aim of this research is to explore how activist students interpret punk music as a medium for new social movements in the song "Bertaruh Pada Api" by Dongker. This qualitative study employs a descriptive interpretative approach, utilizing reception analysis with Stuart Hall's encoding-decoding theory. Data collection is conducted through Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) and relevant literature. The research subjects are activist students serving in the Kine Klub at Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang. The study employs data triangulation to confirm findings.

The research findings reveal diverse interpretations among the subjects regarding punk music as a medium for new social movements in the song "Bertaruh Pada Api". Five out of seven subjects adopt a dominant-hegemonic reading position, fully accepting and interpreting the message in line with the preferred reading; punk music as a medium for new social movements is fully embraced in the song. Two subjects adopt a negotiated reading position, not fully agreeing but understanding the song's meaning. No subjects adopt an oppositional reading position, rejecting or interpreting the message differently.
