Abstract
Increasing regional complexity has become an issue that can influence international dynamics, where regional organizations need to play a crucial role in creating sustainable conflict resolution. One form of regional problem that continues to occur today is the South China Sea, where the disputes that occur also involve Southeast Asian countries. Such as: Vietnam, Philippines, Brunei Darussalam and Malaysia. Seeing the involvement of Southeast Asian countries in the dispute that occurred has led ASEAN as a regional organization to be involved in forming special strategies to prevent the escalation of the conflict that occurred. If you look at the last few years, the South China Sea dispute has become a major issue that has increased concerns about the dominance of the Great Power countries. As an example of a country involved in the South China Sea conflict, China, seeing the dominance of China's power in the economic and military fields is certainly able to increase the security dilemma for countries in the Southeast Asian region. As an organization that prioritizes the principle of non-intervention, several ASEAN strategies are considered less than optimal. The author then elaborates on the concept of Preventive Diplomacy which is fairly linear with ASEAN principles and analyzes the effectiveness of ASEAN's efforts in preventing the escalation of SCS conflicts, especially in 2020-2024.
