In today's life, discrimination still occurs, especially for women. Not only appears in society but also in the media, including films. The many discriminations that exist are an inspiration for the writer to However, the existence of views and beliefs in our minds of prejudice makes many opportunities for women hampered. Therefore, women have fought to break prejudices that make women's opportunities hampered according to (Juliani, 2018) many women's struggles that have been carried out both in real life and listed in a film, Until now there has been a development of women's ways to fight for gender equality, namely through a film. Researchers are interested in researching this phenomenon in films. One of the films analyzed in this study is a Netflix web series titled "Kretek Girl". This research will discuss the depiction of women's struggles in the film. This approach was chosen to provide an in-depth picture of the stereotypes of women depicted in the film "Kretek Girl". Barthes' semiotic analysis allows the author to decipher the signs and meanings contained in the film, as well as how they represent women's resistance to discrimination. The results of this study are expected to show that the struggle of women in the film "Gadis Kretek" is proof that women can be equal to men, which emerges among others the gender struggle of women subordination of women, mansplaining, domestication of women, the view that women are weak, and marginalization of women. This research will reveal what are the struggles of Gender women in Indonesian films shown in the film Kretek girl. Thus, this research not only contributes to the understanding of women's struggles in film, but also opens up discussions on how the media influences and strengthens women's struggles in daily life. The results of this research are expected to be a reflection material for filmmakers and the public to be more critical of women's representation in the media.
