Abstract
The implementation of learning cannot be separated from various learning problems. One of the learning problems is early reading skills, which were identified in the first grade at SDN Tulungrejo 04 Bumiaji. As the implementer of learning, the teacher naturally has strategies to overcome problems in the learning process. The first grade teacher chose the scaffolding strategy as a solution to the learning problem. The scaffolding strategy is used to help develop early reading skills. This is because, with the scaffolding strategy, the teacher provides learning assistance, motivation, encouragement, support, and guidance to students who have difficulty reading so that students can learn independently.
This research uses qualitative descriptive methods to describe the scaffolding strategy for early reading skills that occur in the first grade. Data collection was done through observation, interviews, and documentation. This research was conducted at SDN Tulungrejo 04 Bumiaji
The results of this study indicate that in planning the scaffolding strategy, the teacher performs material analysis, develops indicators, learning objectives, prepares teaching modules, and compiles student worksheets. The implementation of scaffolding applies strategies with learning steps that are in accordance with the scaffolding strategy. To assist students with learning difficulties, the strategy used by the teacher can enhance students' reading skills. The evaluation used includes students' learning progress records to identify students' strengths and weaknesses, which is carried out at the end of the lesson both orally and in writing.
