Abstract

Background : Toilet training is necessary for children to be able to control urination and defecation. Toilet training failure is generally the result of parents' mistakes in implementing toilet training. So failure in toilet training will have a negative impact on children, such as experiencing an expressive and retentive personality. Therefore,
parents need to know effective strategies for teaching toilet training. This research aims to identify parents' strategies for teaching toilet training to children
Method : The research design used is descriptive research. The population in this study was 125 mothers with children aged 1-3 years. The sample that will be used in this research is 55 people who have been calculated using the Slovin formula and selected using simple random sampling. The data collection instrument used was a questionnaire. The data obtained was then analyzed using univariate analysis (frequency distribution).
Results : The results of research on parents' strategies for teaching toilet training to toddlers as a whole show that the majority of respondents chose the answer sometimes as many as 35 respondents (63%), where both questions were included in the oral
technique strategy. Respondents more often use modeling technique strategies, as evidenced by the majority of respondents choosing frequent answers, 29 respondents (52%). to the statement "children imitate what their parents teach", a small percentage of respondents chose the answer never as many as 11 respondents (20%). This happened because respondents initially did not understand how or what methods should be applied to teach toilet training to children.
Conclusion : Respondents mostly used toilet training strategies by giving examples to children when they were in the toilet (modeling technique). This is because children like to observe activities carried out by their parents, so that children imitate what is
taught or what the child observes.
