Abstract
Tuberculosis can cause respiratory problems which will lead to
serious complications and even death. Ways are needed to overcome respiratory
problems, including a combination of pursed lip breathing and semi-fowler position.
Objective: To analyze the combination of pursed lip breathing and semi-fowler
position to improve breathing patterns in tuberculosis patients.
Method: The research method used in preparing this KIAN is a case study report,
which includes assessment and evaluation. The sample for this research was 2
tuberculosis patient respondents using a purposive sampling technique. Data
collection uses interviews, observation and physical examination.
Results: After being given nursing care for 1 day, the author made the main
diagnosis of ineffective breathing pattern related to respiratory effort obstruction.
From this main diagnosis the problem was partially resolved and there were signs
of improvement in breathing patterns in tuberculosis patients.
Conclusion: It can be concluded that pursed lips breathing is mostly done to reduce
shortness of breath in tuberculosis patients, however the semi-Fowler position is
also another alternative and can be done simultaneously with pursed lips breathing.
