Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of the Play-Based Learning model in Arabic language learning and its effect on the enthusiasm of Muhammadiyah 1 Malang Junior High School students. This research used mixed methods approach with sequential explanatory design. The research instruments used in data collection were enthusiasm questionnaire and interview sheet. Quantitative data were analyzed using paired sample T test and qualitative data were analyzed using analysis design by Miles and Huberman. The results of this study showed that there was no difference in the mean score of enthusiasm questionnaire between pretest and posttest students as indicated by the sig value. 0,775 > 0,05. The interview results also explained that student enthusiasm can be influenced by the relationship between teachers and students, the students’ learning background, and the ability to control the class. Therefore, it can be concluded that in this study, the application of Play-Based Learning model does not affect students' enthusiasm in Arabic language learning at Muhammadiyah 1 Malan Junior High School.
