Abstract
Background: Hypertension is a disease that is often found, in treating hypertension it is necessary to have compounds that have a mechanism of actions as antihypertensives. There are several plants belonging to the Zingiberaceae family which contain compounds that can lower blood pressure such as Curcuma longa L.
Purpose: To find out what compounds contained in plants belonging to the Zingiberaceae family have potential as antihypertensives.
Method: Literature review using database in the form of Google Scholar, Pubmed, and Science Direct which contain various articles both national and international in scope which can be accessed in full text using the 2019-2023 period with the help of the following keywords for the national journal “Zingiberaceae” AND “Hypertension”, “Ginger” AND “Hypertension”, “Antihypertensive Ginger” AND “Combination”. While the keywords are for internasional journals “Curcuma longa L.” OR “Combined with herbal plants” AND “Zingiber officinale R., “Kaempferia galanga L.” OR “Combined with herbal plants” AND “Antihipertensi”.
Results and Conclusions: In this study, 16 journals were obtained. The results show that there are 3 plants belonging to the Zingiberaceae family that have potential as antihypertensives, namely Zingiber officinale Roscoe, Zingiber officinale var. Rubrum, and Curcuma longa L. The compounds that have activity to lower blood pressure are gingerol and curcumin.
