Abstract
Background: Hypertension medication given over a long period of time can cause DRP (Drug Related Problems), treatment is given through the use of plants which have compounds that can lower blood pressure.
Purpose: Providing information or data on plants in the Apiaceae family which have activity as antihypertensive herbal medicine, providing information or data related to the content of compounds which have activity as a treatment for hypertension, and providing information regarding the mechanism of action of active compounds in the Apiaceae family as antihypertensive drugs.
Method: The method used in this research is a literature study method or narrative literature review from various library sources from research articles both nationally and internationally. Keywords The keywords for the national journal are "Celery" AND “hypertension”, “Carrots” AND “hypertension”, “Gotu Kola” AND “hypertension, while the keywords for the international journal are “Apium graveolens L.” AND "hypertension", "Daucus carota L." AND "hypertension", "Centella asiatica" AND "hypertension". The journal literature that will be used in this research has a publication year range from 2014-2024 which was obtained from the Google Scholar, PubMed and Science Direct databases which can be accessed freely and are original research.
Result or conclusion: Based on research, 12 journals were obtained and the results obtained were that plants from the Apiaceae family such as celery, carrots and gotu kola were effective in lowering blood pressure in hypertensive patients because these plants contained compounds such as flavonoids, apigenin, apiin, magnesium, vitamin C, and 3-n-butyl phthalide which is found in celery plants. Apart from that, carrots contain potassium compounds which can also lower blood pressure, and gotu kola contains triterpenoid flavonoid compounds in the form of asiatic acid which can improve blood flow.
