Abstract
This study investigated the English language learning needs and curriculum compatibility for students in the Culinary Arts Department at SMKN 8 Surabaya. The primary objectives were to identify students' specific English learning needs and the compatibility of the school curriculum with the student’s learning needs. Using a qualitative research methodology, data was collected through questionnaires from 20 students and interviews with five representative students and an English teacher. Based on the findings, students preferred to focus on practical communication skills, especially speaking, and liked interactive and practice-based learning methods. The results of interview also revealed that both students and teachers emphasized the importance of vocabulary acquisition. This study also found, while the curriculum was partially appropriate for students, significant gaps were discovered, particularly in communication skills and vocational-specific competencies.
