Abstract

Background: Parenting stress in primiparous mothers tends to be more in terms of taking care of the baby for the first time. Primiparous mothers can experience psychological changes such as confusion, anxiety, irritability, and even violent and aggressive behavior towards their babies. Objective: To explore the factors that cause stress in terms of parenting in primiparous mothers who are parenting for the first time. Methods: This study used a qualitative research design with a case study research strategy. Data collection using semi-structured interviews, questionnaires, documentation, data triangulation as a test of data validity, research subjects 3 participants and participant selection using purposive sampling method. The data that has been obtained is then analyzed by domain. Results: In this study, 5 themes were obtained: 1). Bad experience; 2). Unsuccessful Role of Mother; 3). Maladaptive behavior; 4). Lack of husband support; 5). Economic Status. Discussion: Primiparous mothers are prone to emotional instability and stress because they have never taken care of a baby, including aspects of The Parents Distress with indicators of Feelings of competence or lack of knowledge and ability of parents in caring for their children and Relationships with spouse or conflict between parental relationships. This study is more specific than the previous one which only explored the level of primiparous stress but was less specific on the aspects of parenting stress so that this study can be used as an additional source of information for other researchers.
